Cardinals release QB Leinart (AP)
The Arizona Cardinals have released Matt Leinart, parting ways with the former Heisman Trophy winner who was supposed to be the team's franchise quarterback but couldn't escape the backup role. The team made the announcement on Saturday, shortly before the Cardinals had to reach their 53-man roster limit.

Top pick Bradford to start for Rams (AP)
No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford will start at quarterback in the regular-season opener at home against Arizona next weekend. Coach Steve Spagnuolo announced the decision Saturday, saying Bradford had earned the job. "We're confident. The staff's confident. The team's confident," Spagnuolo said.

Ravens place S Reed on PUP list (AP)
Ravens safety Ed Reed will miss the first six weeks of the NFL season after being placed on the reserve physically unable to perform list Saturday. To get down to the 53-man limit, Baltimore also cut quarterback Troy Smith and kicker Shayne Graham, who competed this summer against incumbent Billy Cundiff.

Rosenfels, Reynaud pass Giants physicals (AP)
Quarterback Sage Rosenfels and running back Darius Reynaud are officially members of the New York Giants. The former Minnesota Vikings were examined by Giants doctors Saturday, passing their physicals less than 24 hours after New York acquired the duo for future considerations. Rosenfels gives the Giants a proven backup for Eli Manning.

Colts acquire DB Tryon from Redskins (AP)
The Indianapolis Colts have acquired third-year defensive back Justin Tryon, sending an undisclosed draft pick to the Washington Redskins to bolster an injury-hit secondary. The teams announced the deal Saturday, when the Colts still had to trim their roster to 53 by the league's afternoon deadline.

Chiefs S Page signs free-agent tender (AP)
Jarrad Page, the Kansas City safety who fell out of favor with coaches last year and asked to be traded before sitting out the entire preseason, has signed his restricted free-agent tender with the Chiefs. Page lost his starting spot last season in Todd Haley's first year as head coach. The former UCLA player has made 39 starts since the Chiefs drafted him in the seventh round in 2006.

Bills release WRs Hardy, Jackson (AP)
The Buffalo Bills are going with a young receiving corps after releasing wideouts James Hardy and Chad Jackson to set their 53-player roster. The two were the odd men out as the team elected to keep undrafted rookies David Nelson and Donald Jones in making its final cuts on Saturday. Hardy is a 2008 second-round draft pick whose career in Buffalo had been hampered by injuries.

Richardson, Morris among Raiders cuts (AP)
Coach Tom Cable called this year's roster cuts the most difficult in his four years with the Oakland Raiders. The most noteworthy of 21 initial cuts he made Saturday was defensive end Jay Richardson, who started much of his first two years in the NFL before being relegated to a reserve role last season.

Ben Roethlisberger is getting time off for good behavior. Broncos LB Dumervil out for season (AP)
Elvis Dumervil's season is officially sacked. The Denver Broncos had been holding out hope the league's top sacker would make a quicker than anticipated recovery from a torn chest muscle and return to action in December. Dumervil, however, posted a message on his Twitter account Friday night that confirmed an NFL.com report he'll be going on injured reserve, ending his season.
